WOMxN; Fem Voices from the South for the South
What does it mean to be woman in this day and age? In its vision of moving forward marginalized voices in society, South by South Initiatives in partnership with Studio One Art Studio and Gallery in Iligan City instigates WOMxN- an open call online art exhibit by women for women.
The goal of the exhibition is to give space to those narratives from woman artists from the “south”. More than looking into the plight of the fem artist, it seeks out stories and works by women from what is considered to be the at the fringes of a constantly globalizing society; beyond that of the western fem and more into the Filipino Fem of the geopolitical south--of Visayas and Mindanao.
In order: Mixed Media by Halyawa; Artwork by Ivy Marie Apa; Artwork by Anna Leah Sanson; Sarimanok by Hannah Sojor
The exhibition features artworks by artists from all levels of practice from talented neophyte artists to those both locally and internationally acclaimed artists namely; Ivy Marie Apa, Anna Leah Sanson, Casco, Lourd, Ninianne Sojor, Hannah Sojor, Halyawa, Sleepy, Jannah Adlaon, Bea Pascubillo, Lauran and Krstl.
Moving beyond conversations on gender and into what women contribute to society, WOMxN also aims to extend help to marginalized women and children by contributing a portion of the proceeds of each artwork sold to a charitable cause.
The exhibit formally launches online on March 22, 2021 for public viewing and will run until March 31. Exhibition link and details are posted on Studio One Art Studio and Gallery’s Facebook page: STUDIO1ILIGAN.
